Publieke Werken Rotterdam 2021

Floris de Jong & Jorg Schellekens

Photographic work made with Floris de Jong as a submission for Publieke Werken 2021, an art exhibition throughout the Maastunnel and the public space of Rotterdam.

About

Publieke Werken is the second edition of a huge art exhibition throughout Rotterdam. 670 works by Rotterdam-based artists were on display twice: once in the Maastunnel and once on a random billboard normally (outside of the pandemic era) used for the advertisement of events. Additionally a book was published containing all 670 works in a graphic design by Sibe Kokke.

Curated by Sibe Kokke, Rineke Kraaij, Talitha Nöllen, Annabel Draaijers and Joost Maaskant from an initial avalanche of 1.400 submissions, with “Everything is Possible” as this editions theme.

Together with Floris de Jong I made a series of ultra long-exposure (weeks rather than seconds) photographs, with pre-fabricated and self-built pinhole cameras. The images were made using the principle of solargraphy, with the sunlight burning directly into a sheet of photographic paper without the use of a lens. During the slow times of the pandemic images gradually formed on the paper with each passing of the sun.
