De Geschiedenis van de Familie Avenier 3 & 4

Het Toneel Speelt

Soundscape composition and overall sound design for part 3 and 4 of a theatre epic by Maria Goos (writer) and Jaap Spijkers (director).

About

The latest and last installments of Maria Goos’ family epic about the Avenier family.

We left the family just before the funeral of the eldest son Jan in the warm summer of 1970. Rita has to move, Bert is about to go his own way, Anneke flirts with Mohammed and Toos is wavering: will she continue to run the family’s household appliances empire with Janus and Christ as difficult co-directors – or does she leave the nest too, to breathe life into a souvenir shop in New Guinea together with Henk…

Now it’s 1985. The family no longer lives on the same street or around the corner. But at the campsite a number of family members have a permanent pitch with a nice mobile home on it. Mohammed has returned to Morocco, Bert works in politics and Janus has discovered stock trading. Anneke is married to Mohammed’s uncle. They just had a baby. The family is doing well financially. But something isn’t quite right.

Part 4, the end of the family history, takes place in the year 2000. Rita is in a nursing home. The family comes over on New Year’s Day. She is in her own world most of the time. Sometimes she confuses times and people. The history of the Avenier family is being re-written.

The History of the Avenier Family is a four-part serial about a middle-class family in twentieth-century Brabant. Maria Goos previously wrote the plays Familie (2000) and Cloaca (2002) for Het Toneel Speelt.
