De Toneelmakerij

Sound design (including soundscapes and sound effects) for a show about the magic of theater and stagecraft.

About

Did you know that whistling on stage is extremely dangerous? And that you are never allowed to spit on stage? Did you know that an actor who stumbles during the performance is always successful, but you should never wish him success? Did you know that a stage kiss is always without tongue? And that you should never wear blue on stage unless you combine it with silver? Did you know that sometimes it’s nice to cry over a sad story? And that one light must always remain on in the theater? Even at night!

Jacob wants to know everything about theater. He is apprenticed to Gradus, the old stage manager. Gradus has seen hundreds of plays. He knows the story of every set piece, the love story of every costume. He does the special effects. For example, he makes the sound of rain, thunder and lightning with an iron drum full of dried peas. He initiates Jacob into the secrets of the theater and life behind the scenes. And while Jacob masters the tricks of the trade, a tragedy unfolds in this theater between Princess Laila and her beloved Demian.

Koud Vuur is a family show about the magic of the theater, where nothing is what it seems.
