Korzo Crosstown

About

In 2021 Crosstown, the talent development program for ambitious young dancers will turn 15 years old. Especially for this anniversary, choreographer and theater maker Ryan Djojokarso is creating a new piece for and with the Crosstown dancers in which he approaches the classic Swan Lake from the ensemble: The Lady Birds

Odette and Odille, yes we know them. But Swan Lake has many more beautiful birds. In this dance performance, choreographer and theater maker Ryan Djojokarso ignores the swans in the foreground and looks at what is happening in the background. There is a beautiful ensemble there. There was no individuality in the classical ballet performance, because the ensemble was stuck in a strict pattern.

Ryan puts those dancers center stage, because their story just as well deserves a stage. They are followed in their search for happiness, for love, for self-love and for their own voice. The Lady Birds is a idiosyncratic performance and shows the enchantment behind the masses. Each group consists of unique creatures.
